The Friday Dish: Pizza and a pint for $10, foodie events abound, August pests go back to school, and the best pizza ever
Deals, deals, deals! The first is the offer at The Teahouse in Stanley Park: pizza and a pint on the patio for only $10. This deal is available from 3 to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, until September 25th. Aother great deal is going on at Le Gavroche at 1616 Alberni St. The “Wild Mushroom Festival” includes 3 mushroom-themed courses for $35.
Today only group-buy deals: If you are interested in eating mediocre food in a restaurant with a great view, Steal the Deal is offering a 3-course meal at Cloud 9 for $14. At Grooster, you can get $20 worth of food at Robson All India for only $10. Team Buy has $10 food certificates for the Bread Garden for only $5. Mmm, coffee & muffin, anyone?
What’s going on besides Mexico Fest?
- The 15th annual Living Naturally Fair is happening September 11th & 12th, from 10 am to 5 pm, at 1675 Robson St. There’s also an Okanagan Spring Beer pairing in the evening, 5 – 7 pm, on Saturday. “Enjoy a summer’s evening with refreshing beers and appetizers.” Tickets are $20, with all proceeds going to the Environmental Youth Alliance.
- 5th annual Day at the Farm is going on at Westham Island Herb Farm, 4690 Kirkland Road, Ladner, BC, on Saturday 11th, 10 am to 4 pm. There will be over 30 agricultural exhibits, hay wagon farm tours, farm animals and live dairy milking, fresh local food, canning and titanic tomato contests, and live music. Good news? Free admission. Bad news? You have to go to Ladner.
- Closer to home, the West End Feast is happening at the West End Community Centre at 870 Denman. This free event will take place tonight from 5:30 to 10 pm and feature food, a beer garden, live bands, and more. Proceeds go to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. More info at 604-257-8333.
The report is in and August was a scary month for bugs. Looks like the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority was out to crackdown on the cockroaches at Imperial Chinese Seafood Restaurant at 355 Burrard St., Pho Hoa at 1011 W. 49th Ave., and Red Star Seafood Restaurant at 8298 Granville St. All three restaurants were temporarily closed due to “pest infestations.” No pest problems reported this month, so far. Maybe the bugs went back to school too.
The Friday Dish this week is the Margherita Pizza at The Teahouse in Stanley Park. I tried it this summer and the experience reminded me of when I was a kid and I would always say, “I could eat pizza every day.” It is truly the best pizza that I’ve had in Vancouver. Simple, but delicious. Real, quality mozzarella. Fresh basil from their edible garden. I dare you to find a better pizza. Nom nom nom nom.
