Burgoo, Round Two
On Friday, I sent out a tweet listing where I’d had some of my best food experiences this year. On it, I listed The Teahouse, Yew, db bistro moderne, Acme Cafe, Créme de la Crumb, and Burgoo.
That Burgoo made the list might be a surprise for those of you that read my first review. And yes, while I’m still reluctant to ever try their macaroni and cheese again, I have fallen in love with their Gooey Cheese Grillers and Crab Bisque. The grilled cheese sandwiches and creamy, tomatoey bisque, brimming with crab meat, are what keep me going back again and again.
The Gooey Cheese Grillers are “two grilled angle cut filone sandwiches with melted Mozzarella, Gruyere, Emmenthal and white Cheddar.” $12 on their own.
The Crab Bisque is “smooth crab and red pepper cream bisque scented with tarragon, finished with copped parsley.” $6 cup; $8 bowl.
Or…put your hands together and get the soup and sandwich combo for $15.
I’ve also tried a couple other meals, which were satisfying in a homey sort of way. Burgoo’s slogan is “food for comfort” and that’s what you get.

You just can’t go wrong with the Gooey Cheese Grillers. They are just too good! I have been on a personal mission to find a grilled cheese sandwich in the city that matches the calibre of Burgoo’s but I have yet to find one.
Those cheese grillers are making ME melt… I LOVE gooey cheese and especially when served with soup. Great review. Burgoo is one of my personal faves as well
